Commencement and Convocation

All college convocations,  all special interest convocation events and both University Commencement events require an RSVP for participation. Please contact the dean's office of your college to ask about the RSVP policy for your college convocation event. For information about special interest convocations, please contact the University Ceremonies Office.

University Commencement for Undergraduate Students will be held Monday, May 9, 7:30 pm at Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix. 

Attending University Undergraduate Commencement May 2016:  Undergraduate candidates will enter Chase Field with all other guests and make their way to the seating areas on the field level or in the stadium seating area reserved for graduates.  Volunteers will be on hand to assist you in finding your seat.  Plan to arrive no later than 7:00 pm to be seated with graduates from your college.

Tickets are NOT required for University Undregraduate Commencement held on Chase Field. Tickets will be required for other ceremonies. To view the ceremony schedule and to confirm which events require tickets please visit the Spring 2016 ceremony page. May 2016 graduates must apply and pay their graduations fees in order to have the RSVP link for graduation ceremonies placed on your My ASU page. Tickets are required for some graduation events. This information will appear in more detail on the RSVP page.

Summer 2016  Graduates:  Undergraduate degree candidates who completed degree requirements by August of 2016, are eligible participate in May ceremonies.  Candidates must apply for graduation as a summer graduate and pay your fees in order to have the RSVP link appear on your My ASU page.  This will allow you to RSVP for fall ceremonies. Your name will appear with the listing of students who completed degree requirements in August 2016 in the December 2016 Commencement program.


Academic regalia (caps and gowns) are required for all graduation events. Instructions on how to wear the regalia can be viewed at

Honors Designations

If you are eligible for honor cords, you can pick them up at any registrar’s office on your campus. To find the registrar’s office for your campus please click here.

Summa Cum Laude = Maroon and Gold, 3.80 to 4.00 GPA
Magna Cum Laude = Gold, 3.60 to 3.79 GPA
Cum Laude = Maroon, 3.40 to 3.59 GPA

Academic recognition is granted to undergraduate candidates only. Students must complete 56 or more hours of in-resident work at ASU's Tempe, West, Polytechnic and Downtown Phoenix campuses in addition to having the appropriate grade point average. These students will be awarded honor cords to be worn during the commencement ceremony.  Your current GPA as verified at the time you request your honor cords will determine which cords you are given. Your diploma and transcripts will reflect the appropriate recognition based on all course work completed at ASU, including courses completed in your final semester.
