Commencement and Convocation

All college convocations,  all special interest convocation events and both University Commencement events require an RSVP for participation. Please contact the dean's office of your college to ask about the RSVP policy for your college convocation event. For information about special interest convocations, please contact the University Ceremonies Office.

Fall 2021 Celebrations:  Undergraduate candidates will have the opportunity to participate in University Undergraduate Commencement as well as college and special interest ceremonies. Ceremony schedules are currently under review (as of September 25, 2021) and will be posted soon. Ceremonies will take place the week of December 13, 2021.

Summer 2021 Graduates:  Undergraduate degree candidates who completed degree requirements in August of 2021 are eligible participate in December events.  Candidates must apply for graduation as a summer graduate and pay your fees in order to have the RSVP link appear on your My ASU page.  This will allow you to RSVP for spring events. Your name will appear with the listing of students who completed degree requirements in August 2021 in the December 2021 Commencement program.

University Undergraduate Commencement will take place at 3:00 pm on Frank Kush Field at Sun Devil Stadium. Gates to the stadium will open at 1:30 pm. Please note: Sun Devil Stadium has a Clear Bag Policy. Graduates and guests will be asked to return items to their cars if they do not comply. 

Graduates will be directed to the Frank Kush Field to be seated with their college. Students are recognized as a group, by college during the ceremony. There is no formal check in for University Undergraduate Commencement.

No tickets are required for University Undergraduate Commencement. Guests will be seated in the lower part of Sun Devil Stadium. 

The Fall 2021 University Undergraduate Commencement event begins at 3:00 pm and will run approximately 90 minutes.

Honors Designations

Summa Cum Laude = Maroon and Gold, 3.80 to 4.00 GPA
Magna Cum Laude = Gold, 3.60 to 3.79 GPA
Cum Laude = Maroon, 3.40 to 3.59 GPA

Academic recognition is granted to undergraduate candidates only. Students must complete 56 or more hours of in-resident work, in addition to having the appropriate grade point average. 

These students will be awarded honor cords to be worn during the commencement ceremony.  Your current GPA as verified at the time you request your honor cords will determine which cords you are given. Your diploma and transcripts will reflect the appropriate recognition based on all course work completed at ASU, including courses completed in your final semester.
