Special Interest and cultural convocations are a time for smaller groups to gather and celebrate students’ graduation. The smaller setting provides the opportunity for individual recognition. For more information about a particular special interest convocation, please contact the University Ceremonies Office.
The American Indian Student Support Services and the American Indian Convocation Committee welcome all to Arizona State University to recognize, honor and celebrate the success of American Indian graduates. This is a time to share the joy of our student's achievement and a time to reflect on efforts by the students, families, friends, tribal leaders, and staff. The Asian/Asian Pacific American Convocation is an intimate and personal ceremony held by the Multicultural Student Services and the Asian/Asian Pacific American Students' Coalition to honor and celebrate the achievements of undergraduate and graduate degree candidates. The Black and African (BAC) Convocation recognizes ASU graduates of African descent. The ceremony features African drumming, a keynote address and the presentation of Kente cloth graduation stoles to the graduates. Visit the Black and African Convocation site.
The ASU Hispanic Convocation is a signature event that honors the accomplishments and commitment of ASU’s Hispanic students pursuing higher education. Participation is open to all students graduating in the spring or fall semester. Visit the Hispanic Convocation site.
The ASU Alumni Association, the International Students and Scholars Center and the International Student Engagement Office welcome all to the International Student Convocation to recognize, honor and celebrate the academic success of ASU’s International Students. Enjoy refreshments, receive ASU souvenirs, take pictures with Sparky, and hear from global alumni who have inspiring international stories to share! Light refreshments will be served. The Rainbow Convocation honors students who are LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning and their Allies) by bringing together members of their communities to celebrate the accomplishments of graduates, with particular honor and recognition for the ways in which sexuality and gender have influenced their paths toward graduation. This event includes a keynote speaker, entertainment, graduate recognition, an awards ceremony and refreshments. Academic regalia (cap and gown) required. Visit the Rainbow Convocation site.
